Waikane Valley Area

At HHE, mālama ʻāina is about more than caring for the land—it’s about bringing people together, strengthening our connection to ʻāina, and keeping Hawaiian knowledge and traditions alive. Guided by Project Managers Kua and Anna, volunteers of all ages work side by side in the loʻi kalo, clearing weeds and invasive plants, preparing and beautifying the area, and learning firsthand how to plant, cultivate, and harvest kalo. Along the way, participants gain a deeper understanding of the cultural significance of kalo, build meaningful connections with one another, and experience the importance of kuleana through service. By creating a space where families, youth, kūpuna, and community members can learn and grow together, HHE helps ensure that the knowledge, values, and practices of our kūpuna are shared and carried forward for generations to come.
